The Mayor is the Chief Executive Officer of the City and is responsible for the day to day operation of the city. His duties include:


  • Preside over Council Meetings
  • Vote when his vote is needed to pass any ordinance, bylaw, resolution or motion
  • Call the Council into session for a special meeting
  • Sign all ordinances, resolutions, and city council minutes
  • May veto any ordinance, resolution or order adopted by the council. Council can vote to override veto by two-thirds vote of the total membership and the vote should occur at the next regular meeting.


  • Prepare and submit a budget to the city council on or before December 1 of each year
  • Submit to the Council within the first 90 days of each year a "State of the City" report
  • Keep the governing body advised as to the financial condition and future needs of the city

Appointment, Nomination and Removal

  • Appoint and remove all department heads. Council can override by two-thirds vote of entire members
  • Appoint Building Official
  • Appoint Airport Commission (with Council approval)
  • Appoint Parks Commission (with Council confirmation)
  • Appoint at-large member of an A&P Commission (with Council approval)
